Kelly
MagLaughlin
Partner - Atlanta
While completing her PhD in Information Science at
UNC, Kelly discovered the power of experiential education to support
effective communication and collaboration. She immediately started using
what she was learning as a challenge course facilitator in the classes
she was teaching at UNC and was amazed at how much more engaged her
students were. Hooked on experiential education and wanting to push her
own limits, she spent the next 5 years at North Carolina Outward Bound
School as an instructor of teens and business teams (including: Cox
Enterprises, Charlotte Pipe, Leadership Asheville and Atlanta). At
Outward Bound, she also helped to create and managed the Educator
Initiative, which was designed to support teachers in bringing more
experiential education into their classrooms. Since July 2008, Kelly has
continued waving the experiential flag in new ways. She now spends the
school year as a teacher and the Assistant Principal of Middle Learning
at The Galloway School and her holidays volunteering by teaching
teachers at schools in Haiti.

through all the organizations that he has worked with - the importance
of authentic relationships. Regardless of the organization, the quality
of the individual relationships are key to its success. Ron's passion
is in helping individuals and teams develop relationships that serve

Leadership
Launching Pad, a UNCG student led leadership blog, is a great resource
for sharp thinking needed for today's leadership opportunities and challenges.
Chidsey Center for Leadership Development is Davidson College's
clearinghouse for leadership resources and activities. Leadership can be
a vague concept, one fraught with many interpretations. Founded on the
relational model of leadership, they define leadership as the ability to
empower and inspire others to work together for the common good. The
capacity to lead in this way is not simply inborn, but rather, can be
learned by combining an understanding of leadership theory with
real-life experience.

UNCG's Team QUEST programs from a philosophy called
Experiential Education. Simply put, this means they believe the most
effective program they can offer is one where the participants are
actively engaged in their learning/team development experience.
Therefore, they set up active, hands on experiences for enhancing group
development. Facilitators guide groups through the experiential learning
process by leading initiatives or activities and then processing or
debriefing with the group to discover learning outcomes available for
group improvement. The goal is to transfer knowledge or skills gained
from the Team QUEST experience to the group's typical
organization or team setting.
We
